OmniAccess

About

Hi, I'm Giovanni. I'm a PhD Candidate based in Oregon, and I built this to make it easier for educators to turn their lectures into ones that everyone can use.

Almost all of this app has been built by AI, except this page. Here, I wrote my phylosophy on this project. If you are going to use it, consider taking a minute to read this page.

Why I built this

It came to my attention that lecturers would be required to make their presentations accessible, including adding alt-text to their PowerPoint images. I instantly thought two things: that's great, as people that rely on that information will be able to use it (as opposed to it being neglected since forever), and that it will be a huge pain for lecturers to go back and add alt-text to presentations. It will take them a lot of time, and they will likely not do it optimally--they would either use the wrong tools, or use the tools they have inefficiently. Hence, I figured that this could be a good use for AI, and I've decided to build this app.

My philosophy

Look, it is very easy for us to outsource our issues to AI (where it can be helpful). I also do that on my own projects. However, it is still our responsibility to make sure whatever output we publish is good. Therefore, please be careful when using this tool. You may get a wrong alt-text suggestion, and it is up to you to verify if the suggestions are good. If you think they can be improved, please reach out! I will gladly receive feedback and try to accommodate your suggestions.

Consider helping me

I think there is value in accelerating this image annotation process. Hence why I've built this; I truly think it can be helpful to a lot of people. If you want to help, reach out over email!
